The Power of Your Words
Have you ever talked a lot about a subject, and then it felt like everything you said came true? Perhaps it was about yourself? You’ve been either building yourself up, or tearing yourself down by your own words. It seems like everything you said for the last few months is the life you’re living now. Did you know that was a Biblical principle?
Luke 6:45 - A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
So if you think about and dwell about a subject for long enough, you’re going to talk about it. If you are constantly thinking that you don’t matter and you don’t measure up, then you’re going to start speaking that. Yet the Bible says that we’re created in the image of God. That means that you matter! And you measure up! And you are created to be something awesome!
That’s why we have to be so careful with what we say. God SPOKE the universe into existence. That means we can speak things into existence as well. I’m not talking about the old “name it and claim it”, but living by the power of your words.
Proverbs 18:21 - Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
This follows the concept of sowing and reaping. It works in the natural as well as the spiritual. If you plant a seed, you will reap the harvest from that seed.
Genesis 8:22 - While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.
So if you’re sowing seeds of good words, then you’re going to reap the harvest of positivity. However, if you’re sowing bad words, then you’ll get the harvest of negativity. It’s important to speak positively, especially about yourself! Some of us are our own worst enemy when it comes to speaking life or death over ourselves. We’re so often focused on the negative. We look in the mirror and we’re not happy with what we see. We’re too fat, too thin, too much hair, not enough, our noses are too big, or maybe it’s our ears.
Here’s the thing to remember - you are the creation of God, and He doesn’t make mistakes!
Psalm 139:14 - I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
You are a one of a kind original! Next time you look in the mirror, try saying at least one positive thing about yourself. Perhaps it’ll be easy, perhaps not. But try it each day, and build on it. After a week, try two things, then three and four! You’ll be surprised how differently you’ll feel about yourself, and about the world around you!
Be blessed my friends!
